Driven by an expanded partnership with a climate technology provider, American Express Global Business Travel has upgraded its hotel emissions calculation and reporting in Q3 2025.
Amex GBT—a software and services company for travel, expense, and meetings & events— broadened its partnership with Chooose, integrating its software beyond air travel emissions data to include hotel stays. Clients will be able to customize their hotel emissions calculations with more precise data and broader global coverage, according to the company.
"This is about giving our clients better data, better tools and better decision-making power,” John Sturino, senior vp, product and engineering, Amex GBT, said in a statement. “We’ve engineered this capability to deliver more granular emissions data, deeply integrated into our platforms, so customers can access the insights they need, right where they need them."
The enhanced reporting capability is designed to help customers analyze hotel-related emissions with more granularity and geographic specificity. Integrated directly into Amex GBT’s data platforms, the feature aids travel managers and analysts in accessing standardized emissions data.
"With more accurate data, these improved hotel emissions reporting capabilities can help companies better assess their travel program’s environmental impact,” added Nora Lovell Marchant, vp, global sustainability at Amex GBT. "It’s part of our broader effort to provide the tools and insights that support more sustainable travel choices."
According to the company, key updates to the platform include enhanced choice offering clients the ability to choose from multiple emissions factor providers, as well as wider more precise coverage with Greenview emissions factors covering some 250 countries and territories. Other benefits include preferred data access and independent quality assurance.
Emissions data stored within Amex GBT’s proprietary systems, including the Global Trip Record and Data Lake, is designed to ensure clients receive consistent emissions data across their travel programs. The systems are designed to compliment other traveler-facing hotel sustainability tools at point of sale, such as eco badges and the ability to filter searches for hotels with EV charging stations, according to the company. This new tool also is designed to support Amex GBT’s Consulting and Meetings & Events teams with enhanced reporting capabilities.
