Hilton has signed an agreement for a new-build Canopy by Hilton hotel at Deer Valley (Utah) East Village, reportedly the first first luxury alpine village to be developed in North America since 1981.
Signed as part of an agreement with New York-based Extell Development Co.—a full service national real estate developer of residential, commercial and hospitality properties—the 180-key hotel also will be the Canopy by Hilton brand’s first hotel in Utah with an opening slated for summer of 2026.
“Deer Valley East Village has been a long-anticipated project that is sure to attract brands, retailers, visitors and residents from around the world, and the addition of Canopy to the Village further enhances our vision of bringing world-renowned brands and experiences to the resort,” Gary Barnett, founder and chairman, Extell Development Company, said in a statement. “With a variety of residential ownership opportunities, exceptional hospitality, world-class amenities, and an array of retail, dining, and entertainment experiences, Deer Valley East Village—with the addition of this new hotel—will further cement its status as the crown jewel of Utah.”
Design
The hotel will have architecture by The Richardson Design Partnership and interior design by DLR/Brayton Hughes. The aesthetic aims to combine the tradition of Park City’s silver-mining past with its history as a burgeoning ski destination in the early 1960s. The hotel design will be inspired by the evolving landscape and reflect the transition from a historic mining town to an international ski destination.
"With over 40 properties welcoming guests around the globe and another 40 in various stages of development, Canopy boasts impressive growth, and the signing of Canopy at Deer Valley builds upon that momentum," said Matt Wehling, senior vice president, development, Hilton. "As part of Hilton’s rapidly expanding Lifestyle portfolio that's set to double in just a few years, Canopy continues to celebrate development milestones. Last year, the brand opened its first resort property with Canopy Seychelles, debuted in Japan with Canopy Osaka Umeda, and now, plans to welcome its first ski destination hotel."
Amenities at the hotel will include a pool and hot tub, steam room and sauna, fitness center and golf simulator. There will also be a dedicated ski reception lobby and ski locker room, meeting and conference facilities, as well as two levels of underground parking accommodating 176 stalls.
Food and beverage options will cover more than 9,600 square feet, including a signature destination restaurant, an apres-ski lounge, a grab-and-go coffee shop and a rooftop lounge. These restaurants also will serve the surrounding neighborhood, including Extell’s recently completed 402-unit Pioche Village Condominiums directly next door.
