Hotels across the country—and in the Caribbean and Latin America region—have appointed new general managers in recent weeks. Here are some names to know.
Andaz 5th Avenue
The flagship location of the Andaz brand, the Andaz 5th Avenue in New York City, appointed Marshneil Bharadwaj as the hotel’s new general manager.
Bharadwaj’s career has taken her from guest relations and boutique consulting roles at The Oberoi Raj Vilas and Le Meridien hotels to rooms experience at Hyatt Regency and Grand Hyatt Dubai to Hyatt’s largest Grand-branded property, the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in the Bahamas. She came to the U.S. in 2022 when she became hotel manager at Gild Hall, a Thompson Hotel in New York City. She was promoted to general manager in August 2023.
Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection
Auberge Resorts Collection appointed Fernando Flores general manager of Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Flores joins Esperanza from the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, where he introduced programming such as the Agave Study, TRAVESÍA at Su Cocina and the Festival of Flavors.
Hotel Crescent Court
In Dallas’ Uptown neighborhood, the Hotel Crescent Court appointed Brett Krafft general manager.
Most recently, he was area general manager for The Statler and Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre, overseeing a combined $46 million in annual revenue.
Hotel Heron
The Hotel Heron in Alexandria, Va., appointed Matt Karow general manager.
Karow’s career began with Hyatt Regency and included management roles in Milwaukee; Rochester, N.Y.; and St. Louis. He then joined Highgate in 2013, where he held executive positions at Hyatt Arlington and Hyatt Regency Bethesda, as well as special assignments at Boston Park Plaza and Inn of Chicago. In 2019, Karow returned to the Washington D.C. area as opening general manager of Hyatt Centric Old Town Alexandria. Before returning to Alexandria, he most recently held general manager positions in Florida at The Daytona Hotel, Autograph Collection and the Art Ovation Hotel, Autograph Collection in Sarasota.
Loews Chicago
Craig Curtiss is the new general manager of the Loews Chicago Hotel.
Curtiss has nearly two decades of leadership experience within Loews Hotels & Co. Most recently working as general manager at Loews Chicago O’Hare Hotel, he has held key leadership positions across multiple properties in the Midwest, including Loews Minneapolis Hotel and Loews Chicago Hotel. Curtiss began his career with Loews in 2006 in Orlando, working in the rooms division. His background includes eight years overseeing front office, housekeeping and reservations operations.
Moxy Boulder
Vision Hospitality Group appointed Humberto Fermo the new general manager of the Moxy Boulder, Colo., which opened last year near the CU Boulder campus as the first hotel to open in Boulder since 2018.
Fermo most recently was the general manager of Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco in Denver. Before that, he was the GM at two different Indigo Hotels in Austin, Texas, and Rochester, Minn.
Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel
Hospitality management company StepStone Hospitality appointed Nicholas Wymore general manager of the Renaissance Des Moines (Iowa) Savery Hotel.
Wymore’s career began in Iowa’s independent restaurant scene, and he worked at The Royal Sonesta Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis. He went on to hold leadership roles at the Autograph Collection Luminary Hotel (Fort Myers, Fla.), Kimpton Harper Hotel (Fort Worth, Texas) and DoubleTree by Hilton Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Convention Complex. He also spent nearly seven years as director of food & beverage at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center, where he also was an adjunct faculty instructor for The Kirkwood Center for Hospitality Arts. Most recently, he was general manager of the Autograph Collection Ambassador Hotel in Wichita, Kansas, and now returns to his home state to lead the Renaissance.
TownePlace Suites Middleburg
McKibbon Hospitality appointed James House GM at the TownePlace Suites Middleburg.
During his 10-year career with McKibbon, House has held a variety of leadership roles across several brands and markets. He most recently was general manager of Home2 Suites Wildwood-The Villages. Before that he was dual assistant general manager of the dual-branded AC Hotel and Residence Inn Charlotte City Center as well as general manager of Residence Inn Tallahassee North/I-10 Capital Circle.
Villa Bokéh
Villa Bokéh, a 15-room boutique hotel in Antigua, has appointed Paula Jacobo as its new general manager. Jacobo has worked at properties in Guatemala, the United States, Dubai and Honduras.
A Guatemalan native, Jacobo holds a master's degree in Hotel Management from Spain's Forst Business School and additional advanced certifications in sustainable tourism and international quality standards. She has held roles at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai and Sheraton Waikiki in Hawaii, as well as executive leadership positions at Ibagari Boutique Hotel in Honduras and Mayan Inn in Guatemala.
