Frontera to manage Houston Canopy by Hilton

Management company Frontera Hotel Group has partnered with SLTX Capital to oversee operations for the upcoming boutique hotel within the historic Scanlan Building in downtown Houston. The 140-room hotel, set to open in summer 2027 under the Canopy by Hilton brand, marks a significant transformation of this landmark property.

The Scanlan Building was originally constructed in 1909 on the site of Texas’ first “White House” during its time as a republic and has long stood as an architectural icon in downtown Houston. SLTX Capital acquired the 87,000-square-foot office building to convert it to the Canopy by Hilton hotel. Recognized for its distinctive crown molding, marble walls, and the famed Case Maclaim mural of a boy on a bicycle, the building’s rich heritage will be meticulously preserved throughout the renovation process. SLTX Capital’s ambitious redevelopment aligns with Houston’s evolving urban landscape, particularly along the forthcoming pedestrian-centric Main Street Promenade.

“Frontera Hotel Group is honored to be entrusted with the management of this transformative project,” Zuhair Bheda, senior vice president and chief development officer at Frontera Hotel Group, said in a statement. “This hotel will serve as a bridge between Houston’s storied past and its dynamic future, offering an upscale hospitality experience tailored to both travelers and locals. The Canopy by Hilton brand is the perfect fit for this revitalization, embracing the building’s heritage while infusing it with contemporary elegance.”

The new Canopy by Hilton hotel will have a blend of modern amenities and historic preservation, including a restaurant and bar, a rooftop garden, a fitness center and communal spaces.
