Bathrooms, especially in high-end hotels, are going high-tech, with "smart" features that not only can get guests talking but can
High-tech or multifunction showerheads can be a good selling point for hotels, said Diego Zanatta, business development manager, North America, at Fantini. “They can be considered an in-room amenity and add to the room’s appeal.” Options can range from chromotherapy functions to aromatherapy or built-in speakers.
Jarrett Oakley, director of marketing at Toto USA, noted that since high-tech bathroom products integrate electronic features, proper airflow in the space is essential for longevity. “Good ventilation preserves both the technology and overall guest comfort,” Oakley said. Additionally, some toilets with integrated bidet elements require a GFCI outlet within three feet of the toilet to support features.
Mirrors with integrated LED illumination can optimize space, reduce installation time and costs and minimize maintenance, said Adam Jaffe, chief business development officer at Majestic Mirror & Frame. When considering these mirrors for bathrooms, hoteliers should make sure to confirm compatibility with existing electrical infrastructure and should also determine what features will matter most for each space.
“Technical details are important and the presence of electrical functions in a shower environment poses additional challenges,” Zanatta said. “Planning and installation are more complex and costly, and periodic maintenance is required.” When considering high-tech fixtures, hoteliers should consider the environment in which they will be used. “Ease of use is the second element they should be looking at, as new users must be able to instantly and instinctively understand how to operate their shower.”
