Pursuit Attractions acquires Costa Rica resort for $111M

JLL’s Hotels & Hospitality Group represented the seller in the $111 million sale of Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa to Pursuit Attractions and Hospitality. The resort is located in the renowned La Fortuna region. Other terms and conditions were not disclosed.

The asset spans approximately 570 acres of rainforest at the base of the Arenal volcano, one of the world's most popular eco-tourism destinations. The sale included the 105-room Tabacón Hotel and the Tabacón Hot Springs, Costa Rica's largest network of naturally flowing thermal mineral springs.

The resort has appointed guestrooms and suites crafted with rich handicrafts and furnishings by Costa Rican artisans. Accommodations range from 376-square-foot Orchid rooms to expansive 2,530-square-foot two-bedroom Arenal suites.

The centerpiece amenity is the resort's extensive network of thermal pools and waterfalls. The property also includes a world-class open-air spa integrated with the natural surroundings, and the recently opened Choyin Rio Termal, a separately branded thermal experience designed for broader access.

The JLL Hotels & Hospitality team representing the seller included Senior Managing Director Andrew Dickey, Senior Director Maciej Polek and Vice President Derek Hayden.

"Tabacón represented a once-in-a-generation opportunity to acquire a truly irreplaceable asset with significant upside potential," Dickey said in a statement. "With Costa Rica's exceptional tourism growth, expanding international airlift and the property's unencumbered management status, new ownership will have maximum flexibility to execute their vision while benefiting from the country's continued appeal as a global wellness and eco-tourism destination."
